Details

I will be going up Ontario Peak “the hard way”.

This means parking a car at Icehouse Trailhead, then driving down to Barrett Stoddard Rd.
Walk up the road to Cascade Canyon, then head up to Turtle’s Beak. After a short rest, continue on to Ontario Peak. Then the easy part, go straight down the ridge to Sugarloaf, then down Falling Rock Canyon back to Icehouse and the parking lot.

Experts only.
Class 3 climbing with exposure.

Should see no snow on the climb up, but in parts of the climb there could be patches. The way down the ridge from Ontario to Sugarloaf is likely to have some snow. There was also snow on the north-facing slope going up Falling Rock above 6,500' as of 2 weeks ago. There may still be snow there.

Crampons and Ice Ax are required for the climb down. Rock helmet is strongly advised for hiking any time in Falling Rock Canyon (hence the name).
