My TOPO showed that the first 600 feet up Register Ridge are about 50% grade...

Great hike. We were most of the time cross-country exploring ridges and canyons. North side of Baldy down to Dawson had still considerable snow cover.

John, you wanted to go to Williamson?!!! you're right, that would be crazy, since it's like 16 miles away :) Mike, we ended up back at the cars ~ 3:15, didn't miss you by too much.

didn't get to Dawson and Pine b/c of snow, but created a new Baldy loop which was quite nice. Weather was cold and windy for 2 hours, but gave ridiculous vistas. afternoon sun was welcomed with open hands. checked out some airplane crashes and some cross-country and ridge exploration. Register Ridge is very steep, just the way I like it!

Really great! lots of elevation but Baldy always surprises me. It was great to go from hail to dark blue sunny skies. I would love to see a topo map of what we have done :-)

what a torturous climb that was. so glad we didn't do williamson and pine. i might still be on williamson if we had. Once the clouds cleared and the wind finally died, it became an awesome day.

you guys are more than welcome to come. however I'm not sure how well the group will stay together, we'll see. planning on < 3 hrs up to Baldy, < 4 hrs to Dawson & Pine and back to Baldy.

it now looks like I don't have to hurry up back at 4, so...shall we start at 8? which do you guys prefer?

My sources say after 1600 hrs on Friday, a fleet of B-2 bombers will be carpet bombing RR, Dawson and Pine. So this really is your last chance!! =P

well maybe it won't be the last chance, but I like having that mentality!

I guess you're right with that being our last chance. We should start early (7am seems fine) and aim to be at the top of Baldy (first time) at around 10am. We can then explore the north side and should be back on Baldy (second time) no later than 2pm if you want to be at the car at 4pm. Weather should be nice. There will be no bushwhacking on RR.

this is the last chance, not only at RR, but going for Dawson and Pine. I'm going for it. I'm gonna try to be back to the car by 4, at this point I am supposed to have some lab crap to be at before 6
