This 8-mile, 1600 ft. elevation gain hike is strenuous.

We'll start at the Coon Creek Trail Trailhead and hike Coon Creek, Oats Peak, Beebe, Badger, and Rattlesnake Flats Trails, finishing back at the Coon Creek Trail Trailhead. Over half the elevation gain occurs on the two-mile stretch of Oaks Peak Trail between Coon Creek Trail and the summit. The trails are about 50/50 shaded and unshaded. Along the way we'll enjoy great views in all directions.

Bring layers, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks and plenty of water.

The trailhead parking lot is at the south end of Pecho Valley Road in Montana de Oro State Park.

I'll be at the trailhead wearing a dark, Stetson-style billed hat.
