For the first time, the two national organizations dedicated to presenting classical music in bars and clubs will perform together! Opera on Tap, formed in 2005, and Classical Revolution, formed in 2006, have spawned chapters around the country but never before have they combined forces. The always-entertaining troupe of Opera on Tap Los Angeles singers will descend on the Classical Revolution: L.A. Happy Hour at Silverlake Lounge on October 5th, 6-8pm. The combined production will make opera in a bar bigger than ever before!
There will be a sign at the front and a reserved table for LA Free Concerts. Bar is Cash Only. Food can be brought in. (Suggested places: Cafe Tropicale next door or Silver Lake Ramen across the street). There is plentiful street parking on Sunset and side streets.
ABOUT OPERA ON TAP
Opera on Tap is a national group of professional classical singers and instrumentalists hell bent on returning opera to the people by creating performance opportunities in bars and rock and jazz venues. Alec Magnet (NY Sun) describes Opera on Tap as, "Raucous and sublime… un-elitest, imperfect, and fun." Rick Schultz (LA Times) calls Opera on Tap Los Angeles“... a gifted and irreverent group of classically trained vocalists whose purpose is to take the ‘grand’ out of grand opera.”
ABOUT CLASSICAL REVOLUTION: L.A.
Classical Revolution: L.A. presents chamber music in relaxed, accessible venues throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The group makes "chamber music cozy comfy in bars, clubs, coffee shops" and more "unexpected hangouts." (L.A. Weekly) Mark Swed of the L.A. Times called it an "addictive new series," that can make chamber music "startlingly subversive." Classical Revolution was founded in 2006 at the Revolution Cafe in San Francisco. The Classical Revolution model has spread around the world, with over 30 active chapters in cities around the US, Canada and Europe.
