  • KROQ Presents: FREE MUSIC 3 Bands + $2 BEER Flights@The Satellite/SILVERLAKE

My curated night of free music by indie bands you never heard of... but I think you'll like. Plus cheap beer. JOIN WAITLIST ## If event shows as "FULL" - JOIN WAITLIST: I want some control of the numbers attending so I did set a limit, but chances are good that anyone waitlisted will be good to go as we get closer to the event.) We're going to The Satellite, the influential Silverlake club that's been showcasing new talent since like...forever. On Monday, we have 3 BANDS: Everything from indie pop to Alt rock to indie electronic, Hey, who knows how to classify this stuff -- it's music. It's art! It's free! And, how do you feel about.... BEER: How's $2 for a Beer Flight? From 8:30-10, the back bar has a 4-beer flight for $2. Crazy! Free music, free parking, $2 beer flight. So this is really the ultimate cheap night out. WHAT I THINK: Well, I wouldn't have picked this night if I thought the music sucked -- right? I just gave the bands a listen. MY PICK is actually the first artist of the night, Troi Irons; I like her more rock-y songs -- and she's got some good energy + alienation going. The second band, LeyeT, is more pop-py and dancey -- not usually my thing, but it just might be yours. SLEEPLUST is the headliner band (playing last) -- a slick sound and the singer has a good voice. ### CROSS POSTED w/other cool groups too. ### So we should have a good crowd. So let's go into orbit at The Satellite . . . and check out these bands: : : : THE NIGHT'S LINEUP : : : 9:00 | TROI IRONS (almost alt rock) Influenced by Alanis Morissette, Green Day, Garbage and Avril Lavigne (really), Irons is tryiing to put the rock into pop. Check out "Lost Angels" -- this track's more on the rock side https://soundcloud.com/troimusic 10:00 | LeyeT (Indie pop) LeyeT combines guitar songwriting w/the energy and ethos of dance music. Inspired by the lyrical depth and sonic verve of her favorite dance artists, she channels emotional vulnerability into alternative-pop songs with a solid heartbeat… breakup and self-discovery songs you can dance to. (Well, that makes it sound promising. And that's the one thing I didn't write.) https://soundcloud.com/itsleyet 11:00 | SLEEPLUST (indie electro-rock) Tonight's headliner band: Sleeplust -- L.A.-based band delivering the sort of slick, streamlined electro-rock fare you’d expect to hear on festival stages and alternative stations. Moody electronics, spacious guitars, and modern pop rhythms plus Amber Ruthe's voice, which seems made for this music. https://soundcloud.com/sleeplustmusic Free Show | 21+ | Doors at 8:30 TICKETS: There are no tickets. It's free -- you just show up. | HOW TO RSVP : This is cross-posted with a couple other groups. (If event shows as FULL - JOIN WAITLIST ## I want some control of the numbers attending so I did set a limit, but chances are good that anyone waitlisted will be good to go as we get closer to the event.) HOW TO MEET INFO: I'll get there soon after doors open at 8:45 and I'll post what I'm wearing and where we are in the comments below. And I know it's a weeknight so don't worry - you don't have to stay the whole night. Leave when you want. PARKING: The Satellite has a small paid lot and there is street parking in the area, but please read all posted signage -- watch out! I usually park a couple blocks down around the corner, on Van Pelt Pl, by the park.
