Moderate Hike @ JMF- 3.5, 6, 10+ Mile Hike Options

  • Dec 14, 2013 · 9:15 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

We will start at the Welcome Center and hike to the Lake Trail then the Orange Trail and end with the Red Trail and back to Welcome Center. The total is about 10 miles but you have the option of hiking just to the Lake Trail and back (3.5 miles); adding the Orange Trail (5.8 miles) or completing the Red Trail also for a little over 10 miles.

We will hike at a Moderate Pace and stay together as a group. Those turning back will check in first with leader so all can be accounted for. I prefer partner hiking for those finishing early- this has been successful in the past.

This is a good hike for those unsure of their hiking ability for the hilly terrain of JMF. We will not be in a rush; enjoying the scenery and being supportive to new members.

Bring water and snacks.

Dress in wicking layers.

I am looking forward to seeing some new and familiar faces on the trail!

Thanks,

Sheila

I think for now I will look for those marked a stroll in the woods. I don't want to slow the group down any. I did not realize I was that out of shape till I woke up the next morning LOL. Well I sorta figured it out after the first hill or two. I will get up to par in time. I enjoyed all the friendly faces.

You did not slow us down at all. We slowed down on the slippery sections and you caught up. That happens on hikes some are faster on up-hills, some are slower on down-hills (me). We regroup on a regular basis and everyone was together at that point, but if we needed to wait a bit we do that too, because that is how I posted the hike. Nate, you are welcome to join us on any of my Moderate Hikes! And with some time you will be on to more strenuous hikes. Hang in there, you did great!

Sheila, Thanks for leading the hike. The rain and cold temperature made this a very interesting. The hill tops are so heavenly looking. They reminded me a lot of great places. Also, thanks for the energy bar. I could even stop by the grocery without breaking the bank.

Roads should not be bad since temps are going to be above freezing tonight and morning. We are going to have rain, but as long as you have good rain gear you are good to go. I actually like the rain...the woods will be quiet except for the pitter patter and bird calls.

Weather forecast right now is for snow until 10:00 changing to rain later in day. We are only supposed to get about an inch. Of course, this all could change. If it stays the same we will have a great hike in the snow and the roads will be clear when we head home!

I will have the hike unless the roads are impassable! Check the site Saturday morning. Thanks, Sheila.
