3rd Thursday Square Dance with Whistlin' Rufus & Caller Anna R-G

The Third Thursday Monthly Square Dance is firing up another run. Events are held in the big banquet room of the Amvets hall in Schnitzelburg.

How Much? - $5 to get into the dance hall area (Amvets members, 18 & under, and volunteers get in free)

Where? - Amvets Post #9 & Danny Mac's Pizza @ 1567 S Shelby St 40217

When? - Thursday March 21st

When? When? - Doors open @ 7, beginners dance workshop will start @ 7:30 with dancing shortly thereafter from around 8-10:30

Who? You and everyone you know. All ages, but IDs will be checked so the kiddies don't get drinkies.

What Band? - Whistlin' Rufus (Local Favs) with Caller Anna Roberts-Gevalt (VA)

Come early for drinks and pizza. If you can support the venue by buying food or drinks it helps make this event possible for so cheap. We will be setting up the hall Wednesday night before the dance at 8pm and could use a couple volunteers. We also need folks to poster/flyer and do half hour door shifts during the dance. [masked]

***All dances will be taught. Everyone will have fun. No experience necessary. No one is required to dance,
but everyone is encouraged to try it out. The dances are predominately traditional southern Appalachian figures.
No dress code or partner needed, but leather soles are fun for dancin'. Anyone can dance with anyone regardless of gender.

Beginner lessons at 7:30 to help with basic techniques. But remember, these moves are meant to be simple. Anyhow, sometimes messing up is half the fun. ;)

You can come alone, +1, or +5: all will be included regardless. But, no one is forced to dance unless they're feelin' it. (Watching is really fun too.) These social-dances are all about fun and inclusivity. We encourage folks to find new friends and dance partners throughout the night. Leads and follows are both encouraged to ask others to dance.

We encourage mixed skill-levels to dance together in order to form a community of dance-mentors. If you're an experienced dancer, consider learning both the lead and follow part to better help newbies get light on their feet!

Fun increases exponentially when there's a big'ole mess of people dancing and laughing together. We've had a great turn out last year, mostly do to fa ebook and friends convincing friends it really is actually fun, and not at all like they may think. Let's keep it up!
