Book Group

Book Group,

For our January 26th. meeting  we had a great discussion of Greta Christina's book "Why Are Atheist So Angry?" We had twenty people in attendance which is one of the larger groups in recent memory.

During the course of the meeting four books including  Carl Sagan's "The Demon Haunted World", Katy Butler's "Knocking on Heaven's Door", John Robbin's "The Food Revolution", and "The Happiness Revolution by Jonathan Haidt were presented for consideration for the month of February and March.

"The Demon Haunted World" was selected as February's book. Following is a brief description from the Amazon purchase site. Remember if you chose to purchase the book from Amazon the SHL will receive a percentage of the purchase price from Amazon.

"How can we make intelligent decisions about our increasingly technology-driven lives if we don't understand the difference between the myths of pseudoscience and the testable hypotheses of science? Pulitzer Prize-winning author and distinguished astronomer Carl Sagan argues that scientific thinking is critical not only to the pursuit of truth but to the very well-being of our democratic institutions."

Remember that Book Group meets at the Barnes and Noble on Sam Rittenberg Blvd. each Month on the fourth Sunday from 4:00 to 5:30 PM. After an engaging discussion we go out to one of a number of local restaurants to eat and socialize.

Looking forward to seeing you at the February 23rd meeting to discuss Sagan's book.
