Spring is upon us and routes are coming into their best shape from now until about August - this is the heart of the mountaineering season! The club is offering tons of climbing and training this time of year. Join SMC now to get involved!

WILDERNESS FIRST AID (WFA) and CPR: Our certified instructors teach a climbing-specific nationally recognized two-day WFA course for only $135 for members. They do an amazing job and these courses are highly recommended for everyone. CPR will be taught the night before at the same location for only $30 for members.

MOUNTAINEERING LEVEL ONE (MTN 1) TRAINING: There has been incredible demand for this basic course which teaches mountain camping and travel, navigation and route finding, rock scrambling, rappelling, climbing a fixed line, knots, and lightweight clothing and gear. So we've responded - all the following dates are RSVPing currently

ROCK CLIMBING TRAINING: Currently there are 18 rock climbing training events registering from May 1 to August 1. They span all Level 1 and Level 2 training days and all skills from novice to emerging leader. Level 3 training events will be posted in the next two weeks.

  • Register for RCK 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 or RCK 2.1, 2.2, or 2.3: Go to the club website at to check it out and get on board.
  • What's with all the decimals? Those are specific days in each level, such as 1.1 -That's level 1, day 1. Each day has a specific focus, you can take any or all as you need in any order. All SMC training has been expanded - click here to view changes.

CLIMBING EVENTS: Currently we are climbing at Feather Peak, Mt. McAdie, Half Dome, Phantom Spires, Mt. Hood, Tioga Peak, Mt. Conness, Alabama Hills, Split Mountain, Mt. Langley, The Palisades, Mt. Goddard, and later expeditions are going to the Grand Teton, Canadian Rockies and Mont Blanc, respectively. No matter if its "full" or not put your name on the interest list for all climbs that are a good match for your skills, fitness and interests - we always have changes in our RSVPs right up until they happen.

Have a wonderful spring and we hope to see you out with the club ASAP!
