May Rock Climbing Training Camp w/SMC

ANNOUNCING: May 21st - 23rd Sierra Mountaineering Club is holding a 3-day rock climbing training camp and you're invited. All Level 2 courses will be offered in sequence, you can take any or all as desired. All gear is included. SMC members only. Recommended for those with some prior climbing experience. DAY ONE: Rock Climbing Anchors and Protection (RCK 2.1) May 21st - The first step toward lead climbing. Students will learn comprehensive rock climbing protection equipment strategies and anchoring technique. $110, max. 10. First come, first serve. Register here. You'll learn about:

  • Natural, artificial and fixed protection
  • Placing protection
  • Assessing gear
  • Cleaning
  • Opposing protection
  • Single point anchors
  • SRENE

DAY THREE: Sport Lead Rock Climbing (RCK 2.3) May 23rd - is a full day of lead climbing instruction and practice in mock and/or sport configuration on either bolts or pre-placed gear up to 5.9. $110, max. 10. First come, first serve. Register here. You'll learn:

  • Racking gear for sport climbing
  • Flaking the rope
  • Strategic clipping
  • Anchor assessment
  • Where and how to rest
  • Bailing
  • Falling on lead
