June Rock Climbing Training Camp w/SMC

ANNOUNCING: June 10th - 15th Sierra Mountaineering Club is holding a 6-day rock climbing training camp and you're invited. All RCK 1 and 2 courses will be offered in sequence, you can take any or all as desired. All gear is included. SMC members only. SMC training courses overview here.

DAY ONE: Introduction to Rock Climbing (RCK 1.1) June 10th - This is our foundational rock climbing training course for beginning climbers. $90, max 12. First-come, first serve. Register here. You will learn:

  • Climbing safety
  • Rock climbing gear, clothing and equipment
  • Knots
  • Fitting harness and shoes
  • Belaying
  • Scrambling
  • Fundamental techniques for crack, face and slab climbing
  • Overarching rock climbing concepts and strategies

DAY TWO: Basic Rock Climbing and Bouldering (RCK 1.2) June 11th - This is our beginning outdoor rock climbing training course with a full day of top rope climbing and bouldering up to 5.8. $90, max 12. First-come, first serve. Register here.You'll get instruction and practice in:

  • Top rope safety
  • Climb footwork
  • Climbing handholds
  • Bouldering
  • Spotting
  • Belaying techniques

  • Focus on strategies for pushing through harder climbing
  • Be coached through advanced climbing techniques and rappelling
