NEW SIG 2 Training Dates Now Registering

Hello SMC Members and Meetup members,

SIG 2: Snow Climbing and Alpine Ice Climbing training has historically been one of our most valuable and important training courses. There are now three ways to get SIG 2 trained:

  1. SIG 2 TRAINING ONLINE: This qualifies you to attend any SIG 2 free practice events as well as any SIG 2 club events and expeditions. 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm, held on January 26th, February 10th, March 3rd, March 18th, and April 14th. In the training we review all the elements of SIG 2.1 and SIG 2.2 (see below) These are the only dates for 2016. Registration is $110. SMC paid members only. Training is held on a business class video conferencing service - a very convenient and time efficient option which puts SIG 2 credentials on your SMC profile and provides priority on any interest list.
  2. SIG 2.1 FREE PRACTICE: This is our comprehensive snow protection and anchors class in preparation for lead climbing on snow and alpine ice. January 30th, February 27th, March 12, and March 26th. 8 hours, held on Grouse Peak near Donner Pass, includes technical loaner gear, and is also instructional just like the traditional SIG 2.1 course. However, members will be RSVPed from the interest list. Those that attend online SIG 2 training will get priority and anyone else who has qualifying climbing experience can attend. Maximum 12. SMC paid or free members only.
  3. SIG 2.2 FREE PRACTICE: This class provides the opportunity to practice snow and alpine and/or water ice lead climbing techniques while ascending a moderate 1,000 ft. snow and ice route on a roped team. January 31st, February 14th, February 28th, March 13th and March 27th. 8 hours, held on the north face of Donner Peak near Donner Pass, includes technical loaner gear, and is also instructional just like the traditional SIG 2.2 course. However, members will be RSVPed from the interest list. Those that attend online SIG 2 training will get priority and anyone else who has qualifying climbing experience can attend. Maximum 12. SMC paid or free members only.

Registration and interest lists for all these SIG 2 dates are open now! I hope this will allow more members to get the snow and alpine ice climbing training they need to have an amazing 2016!

Thank you for your involvement and interest in SMC.
