Earth Day Drum Circle/Kirtan Celebration
This Sunday, April 22, following the Drum Circle from 4-6pm we will have a special last minute Kirtan. From 6:30 to 8 Ryan Hader (a kirtan Wallah from Milwaukee) and Damon the Zen Drummer from Colorado will be sharing a joyous Kirtan. For anyone new to Kirtan here is a helpful description -- Kirtan is a very different kind of music. Based on ancient chants, it has the ability to quiet the mind if listened to with intention. Everyone experiences kirtan differently, and it doesn’t have to be a religious experience. You can think of it as a sing-along. A kirtan concert is not your typical concert either. Everyone sits on the floor, although chairs are usually available. The performers are accessible, in fact there’s not much of a distinction between performers & audience. The wallah (leader) sings the mantra, and the audience sings it back. As you sing with each other you experience a deep connection with the musicians, the other audience members and yourself. And when the music stops, your mind is quiet. Damon will be in Madison having his brain studied for a study being conducted on advanced mediators. Due to the very short time of his trip here this is our only chance to get in a kirtan in while Damon is in town so we are taking it! Gina has been raving about how much she loves the Community Drum Circle at Goodman Center so when she found out Damon would be able to make it to the drum circle and Ryan has been wanting to attend too her wheels got turning and now we get a kirtan as well :) The combination of Ryan and Damon together make for a joyous energetic and beautiful kirtan. We hope you can make it. A donation basket will be available and donations are appreciated yet not required Gina Skrzypchak

What we're about

Public Group

This is a place for folks to connect with other drummers, dancers, and hoopers in the Madison WI area and beyond.

No experience necessary. It is all for fun. Our community drum circle is free and open to all. In our drum circle we have no goal or destination. There is only the experience of the process, arriving in each moment. We are here to improvise and release and take the energy that will create balance in our lives. We will use this playful, expressive and energetic environment to collaborate to create music as a community.

I will be posting events for group drumming circles, drum and bonfire campouts, workshops, classes, Burning Man, and other related things. You should be getting NO spam. If you do, please inform me immediately.

Posting of events is restricted to organizers. If you have an idea for a gathering, please let one of us know.

You can also post your ideas for events and meets on the discussion board.

The group will grow as more people find out about it, so please ask your friends to join the group too!

***At most meets we will have extra drums or hoops available if you don't have one.

**If your drum needs tuning, or major help, we can steer you in the right direction.

Please email the organizer if you have questions.
