Drumming for Spiritual Awakening
An experiential workshop exploring percussive spirituality
Lead by Christina Cappelletti, assisted by Wahru Cleveland
Madison Wisconsin, 12:30-3:30pm, Sunday, October 31, 2010
Our Spirit carries all the knowledge and wisdom we need to answer our questions about life...if we relax enough to access our own depths and trust what we see and hear down inside.
Some say the Drum is "the Shaman's Horse" -- a transportation to our deeper selves. We can ride the waves of sound to our heart, mind and spirit.
At this workshop, we will explore the use of sound to connect to ourselves and to each other in a journey of spirit. Participants will be encouraged to play drums and other instruments, including our voices, with some exercises structured to help us all to learn and act from our hearts.
Exercises will include: warm up sounds, vocals, e-motions, percussive storytelling, meditative journeying and body movement as inspired by drumming.
All percussive skill levels welcome to attend; only requirement -- open heart, mind and spirit!
Warm Up Sounds -- introductory exploration of the voices of the instruments
Vocal Element -- group will engage in a coordinated toning exercise
E-Motions -- use of the instruments to share the emotions we bring to the day
Percussive Storytelling -- creation of scenes using sound
Meditative Journey -- use of drumming technique based on Shamanic teachings to allow participants to journey or meditate on a topic or quest
Movement -- dance as moved by drumming
