Hello and welcome to new members!

The Who and What:

The Madison Skeptics meeting this Sunday will be a joint meeting with the Humanist Union of Madison. Dr. Ronald Numbers ( will be giving a talk entitled "Anti-Evolutionism in America: From Creation Science to Intelligent Design." Dr. Numbers is the Hilldale and William Coleman Professor of the History of Science and Medicine at UW-Madison and is nationally known for his contributions to the Evolution v Intelligent Design debate in chronicling the history of Creationism in the United States. His most prominent book is The Creationists which "is considered the most definitive history of anti-evolutionism" (according to his Wikipedia entry). He has co-edited two anthologies on the relationship between science and religion (Science and the Christian Tradition with David Lindberg and Modern Science in National and International Context with David Livingstone), in addition to co-editing an 8 volume Cambridge History of Science with David Lindberg. He is currently working on a one volume history of science in America since the European settlement.

The Where:

The meeting will be held at 3pm Sunday at the meeting house of the Prairie Unitarian Universalist Society at 2010 Whenona Drive. It can be reached via the Beltline Frontage road between the Seminole and Midvale exits. Whenona turns off of the Frontage Rd almost directly under the pedestrian bridge over the Beltline. Four blocks after turning onto Whenona and just before the street ends, the Prairie Meeting House will be on the right on the corner of Whenona and Crawford. it is a low 1 story building white and brown building with a small prairie planted in the front yard. There is no parking lot, but there is ample parking on the two streets bordering it. The closest bus that runs on Sundays is 18, which goes down the Frontage Rd past Whenona.

As always, if you need a ride, post a message to the message board on the website or email me and I will try to find a ride for you.
