Bar Mills garden tour and potluck

  • Jul 14, 2013 · 5:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Barbara and Jackie invite permies in Buxton, Hollis, Gorham and other points west of Portland to their home to join in one of our ongoing "getting to know our neighbors" homestead tours. These are casual occasions to walk a piece of land, discuss what plans and projects are happening, and then gather for a potluck meal and more discussion.

In Barbara's words, "how much can you cram into 2/3 of an acre, from fruits and veggies to 125 varieties of perennial flowers?" Using permaculture principles, quite a lot!

Please join in and let's see how we can share resources, ideas and energy locally!

5pm - gather and walk and talk
6pm-ish - Please bring a dish to share and your potluck kit - plate, bowl, cup, utensils, napkin.

We look forward to seeing you!

Thanks again Barbara and Jackie - what a beautiful, bountiful haven you've created. It was so wonderful to meet new neighbors, too.

Hi Shannon, I left my pot holders at Barbara and Jackie's place. How can I get in touch to retrieve them. Thanks and I'm looking forward to more permaculture to participate in and share.

A quick comment in reference to barley- you had mentioned that your barley was difficult to hull. I checked my (nearly ready) Robust barley, and it does indeed have a very tight hull. However, my 'black barley' (seed originally purchased at Whole Foods) is ready; I cut it down today with a sickle, and I notice that those seeds *easily* come out of their hulls. Who knew? It's my second year growing it but I hadn't yet threshed lat year's (It's still sitting in a grain 'crib'. So I should have some small amount of seed to share..lw

what an incredible summer evening! It was a privilege to see your garden; it is a work of art that leads one on from one area to the next in a celebration of fertility and loveliness.

I work that day but get off at 4pm. If I get out on time I should be able to make it! Looking forward to the opportunity.
The barley and others are really pushing in my grains planting. I will try to bring pictures, and hope I can host you all for a visit if I can get on the schedule!

Hope you can be there, and yes, let's see if we can get a tour arranged. Sounds as though you're doing some really cool things in Hollis.
