Portland Community Garden Coordinator

Seasonal, part-time, flex-hour position (5-20 hrs per week, April – November) - Seeking a part-time Community Garden Coordinator to oversee the Community Garden program. The successful candidate should have prior experience in community gardens/local agriculture activities and be a well organized self-starter, with the ability to work both independently & collaboratively with others. Job duties will include organizing community garden membership list and assigning garden plots; monitoring voice mail and e-mail correspondences and maintaining waiting list; providing outreach to community garden members; providing oversight to community gardeners in regards to productivity, maintenance, program guidelines and rules; organizing garden work projects including weeding, pathway maintenance, Spring & Fall cleanup; reviewing condition of garden fences, gates, sheds & tools, locks and water system; and working with individual gardens to promote composting of green waste from gardens. Successful applicant must demonstrate professional and/or educational experience in agriculture/horticulture; must possess excellent computer & communication skills with the ability to work a flexible schedule between the months of April through November; must possess valid Maine Class C driver’s license (must provide license number) and maintain a good driving record; must pass criminal conviction background check. $11.00 - $13.00/hr. depending on experience with mileage reimbursement.
