This month we will show you how to hack your webcam into a microscope (http://www.instructables.com/id/Simple-Super-MacroMicroscope-Webcam-Conversion/). It turns out it is really easy and all you need is a cheap enough webcam which we have found for you :) We will begin with deconstruction of the web cam and a description off all the parts you see. Then we will play around with the existing optics and see how you can get different levels of magnification. I was able to see the individual pixels on my computer screen:)

Finally, there will be a demo of how to use a Processing library (http://urbanhonking.com/ideasfordozens/2013/07/10/announcing-opencv-for-processing/) and openCV (http://ubaa.net/shared/processing/opencv/) to do real time processing on the images you see. The workshop will be $25 dollars.
Please bring a computer and, if you have it, a smart phone with a flashlight app on it. The webcams we will be using are UVC so you will not need to install any software. Also bring something you want to look at. Salt grain sized things are perfect.
And, we want to see the cool stuff you all are doing! So email us if you have something you want to show off and we will arrange a demo.
See you there!
A fun-for-all-ages event. Children under 14 need to be accompanied by an adult.
See you soon!
