------------------------------------------

Dear Mandarin speakers, learners, and enthusiasts,

I am Gerrie from the Confucius Institute at BCIT (CI). On behalf of the Institute, I would like to welcome you all to attend the Mandarin Meetup at the Confucius Institute in Downtown Vancouver on March 17th

One of the mandates of CI is to promote the Mandarin language and the Chinese culture outside of China. So we are delighted to help all enthusiasts to learn this language, and we are willing to provide as much support as we can. We have a website that describes what we do in general (This website is being updated lately, so if you check it in a couple of months, there will be more information coming up.) We also have a free-trial website for our newly developed Mandarin teaching products. Feel free to visit and take advantage of the free trials!

This time, besides the regular social aspect of the Meetup group, I will deliver a short workshop/lesson on mastering the Pinyin system. Hopefully, after this workshop, you won't have any problems reading and using Pinyin. Some games will be involved. The lesson is free; all I ask from you is your feedback for the lesson and the teaching materials, so I can improve it for my own products.

In order to participate in the games, a pocket-size Chinese-English dictionary (with the Pinyin index!) will be helpful if you haven't mastered the language yet.

In the future, we will offer different lessons if people ask for them. We will discuss all this at the Meetup. In addition, CI has a wonderful reading room which has lots of Chinese books and videos, for your use while at the Institute.

The BCIT downtown campus is right at the Skytrain Granville Station's Seymour entrance. We are on the 8th floor. The classroom will be open for you at 6pm. The Mastering Pinyin lesson will be 7-8 pm.

If you have further questions regarding CI's offer for this Meetup, feel free to call me at[masked] or email me through my Meetup member page (see below.)

See you soon!
