2019 Venice carnival photography tour Feb 23rd -26th - 4 days, 3 nights
* £50 deposit will secure a place. Balance only due in January. Contact me if you want to take this option * I love shooting in Venice. Not only do I go to the carnival every year but I also frequently travel there to update my stock and travel libraries. Its a magical place at any time but during carnival it really comes alive and the atmosphere is incredible. So come along with me as I guide you round the city, placing you in the best places at the right times so you will come away with some great photographs. Of course we will be shooting the carnival events and the many mysterious costumed and masked figures all over the city. There are some incredible outfits being worn by people who want to be photographed. So if you have ever found it hard or intimidating to shoot with strangers this is the place to become more confident. We also do dawn shoots, night scenes, panoramic vistas from high up, visit the old food market, cruise down the Grand Canal, take the ferry to the colourful island of Burano all amongst the most beautiful architecture. And of course we will enjoy some great food and wine ! Some feedback from my Carnival tours: What a superb weekend! Martin, it was brilliant and well organised - thank you! What a great bunch of people too - all walks of life, it was lovely to meet you all and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you all very much for making it a special weekend. LP "What a fantastic trip to Venice. We were lucky with the weather and we were very lucky to have Martin and his terrific guidance and organisation. I loved every minute and would do it all again in a heartbeat” JP The trip officially starts in Venice on Saturday February 23rd at 3pm and ends on Tuesday afternoon the 26th. The £399 fee covers all tuition, organisation and guidance for the whole time we are there. Travel, accommodation, insurance and food/drink are not included. Travel if booked now is still reasonable - Carnival is one of the most expensive times to visit the city, however booking early means that you can get some excellent prices; Flights; I would recommend flying from Gatwick with BA or Easyjet. Currently Easyjet returns are less than £80 and BA £120. I suggest you take either the 09.30 - 12.40 Easyjet or 08.50 - 12.00 BA out on Saturday 23rd. Ideally you should land in Venice by 13.00 so we can all meet between 15.00 - 16.00 in St Marks Square. The weekend officially finishes between 13.00 - 15.00 on Tuesday 26th so if flying back to Gatwick then BA at 16.30 or Easyjet 18.50 would be perfect. You may prefer to fly out from different cities or times or extend your stay for a day or two. You are also welcome to bring a (non photographing) partner should they wish to do their own thing during the day and join us for the evening meal. Hotels; If you can stay in the St Marco area between St Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge that would be ideal. Anywhere in Central Venice is fine but if you are too far away you might find it a bit of a pain travelling back and forth to our daily meets. Do ask me if you are not sure if the place you have chosen is suitable. I will again be staying at Pensione Accademia Villa Maravege by the Academia Bridge. Last year I stayed at Hotel Centauro, the year before Hotel La Fenice. All are fine for the single travelling photographer. At the time of writing you should be able to book a modest room somewhere central for around £90 a night. There are cheaper options, and of course much more expensive ones too. I use ( to find accommodation. My events are structured for photographers of all abilities; I can cater to everyone from the very experienced to those who are just learning about digital photography and want some tuition and help. Its a great opportunity to improve your photographic skills in a visually rich and historic environment. Any questions ? [masked] Photos taken by students on previous trips.

    What we're about

This group is for London photographers who want to learn or improve their picture taking skills. Our workshops are somewhat different from many others.

We choose more unusual subjects and the emphasis is very much on teaching and sharing knowledge to hone your skills and encourage creativity. Indoor workshops take place in a professional studio and numbers are always restricted to ensure that everyone receives as much instruction and assistance that they may need.
