Observing and Understanding Everyday Weather

  • Mar 16, 2014 · 2:00 PM
  • Maryland Naturalist Center

Martin Schmidt, earth science teacher and author of Maryland's Geology, offers this workshop as an overview of weather. We see highs and lows on weather maps and follow the forecasts, but is there a pattern?  Can we understand what's happening--and what's likely to happen next--from what we observe outside?  The answer is yes, and understanding the common systems helps us notice even more of what's happening around us when we're outside.  Join us to see the big picture and how it plays out in daily weather.

Cost:  $25 for non-members; $10 for members

Become a member at www.marylandnature.org

Martin Schmidt is a volunteer, so your money will go directly to support the programs, the nature collections, and the building that make this kind of nature education possible.  All proceeds from this workshop go to the Natural History Society of Maryland for the creation and support of the Maryland Naturalist Center Project.

Martin Schmidt has been teaching grades 9-12 at McDonogh School since 1978, including physics, chemistry, and geosciences over the years.  His book, Maryland's Geology (Schiffer Publishers), is designed to give a basic geologic background and then apply it to the state, for students, teachers, and laypeople.
