  • Virtual "Natick" Go Meetup

    Online event

The "Natick" group is now meeting via Zoom + OGS. Obviously, everyone's invited, and beginners are always welcome. I'm just calling it the "Natick" group since we're meeting on Tuesday evenings and I'm hosting. If you'd like to participate, just RSVP to the meeting and get the following information to me either by comment (below), Meetup message, or email: Full name (if not obvious), OGS name, and approximate AGA rank. Beginners start with a rank of 30k. Additional information on how to participate is available here: http://tiny.cc/re64nz (updated 5/16/20) On Tuesday evening, sign in to OGS and go to the Massachusetts Go Association room. Zoom details will be posted there. This group will have Go instruction for beginners, an opportunity for everyone to play Go games, game reviews and friendly chat. Let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you.

There will be a national beginners' night as a part of the 2020 e-Go Congress, organized by the American Go Association. This is a great opportunity to learn Go. No experience or Go equipment is required - this meeting is 100% virtual. All that's required is the ability to connect to a Zoom meeting. The meeting is 5-8 pm Pacific Time, 8-11 pm Eastern Time. Arrive any time, and stay as long as you wish. Expect to spend about an hour for the introduction and the first game or two. What should you expect? * An introduction to the game of Go. * The basic rules of play (Go rules are simple). * We'll take a quick look at some games being played. * Play a game! (Suggested: sign up for a free OGS account.) For more information about the 2020 US e-Go Congress, see the site here: https://www.gocongress.org/ Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/603747076808122 The Zoom link to join this meeting will be available here after you RSVP. It will also be available on the e-Go Congress Web site. You can sign up for a free OGS (Online Go Server) account here: https://online-go.com/ With a free account, you can play games with the instructors or other Go players. If you do get an OGS account, sign into OGS before you join the Zoom meeting and give the meeting host your OGS user name so they can coordinate initial games for you. Check back here after the event ... I will post a link to a document with some information about opportunities for further learning and playing Go in the comments.
