Managing Emotions

“I don't want to be at the mercy of my emotions. I want to use them, to enjoy them, and to dominate them.”
- Oscar Wilde

  • What is your relationship to your emotions?
  • Are you a slave or a master when it comes to managing your emotions?
  • What are the connections between emotional mastery, freedom, wisdom and happiness?

There has been so much great work done on empowering oneself through the mastery of emotions that I thought this would be an ideal topic for our group. This event will be an opportunity for us to explore wisdom and insights from some of the great philosophers of the past and present, as well as a forum for us to share our insights, theories, thoughts, and experiences.

No formal philosophy experience or specialized knowledge is required to participate in any of our events (either as a facilitator or as a regular guest). All that is required is that you are open-minded and respectful of your fellow guests. :)

Facilitator Information

As previously mentioned, our members take turns helping to facilitate our discussions. We require one discussion facilitator for each table of 6 people but I doubt that we`ll have a problem finding volunteers. I`ve created a special video just to explain what is involved with facilitating our discussions.

What about southbank or Milton or west end for venue?

Any of those areas would be fine, I think, but we'd need a restaurant name so we can reserve a table or tables. Any suggestions, anyone?

Well, everyone showed up, which was great, and we had two very lively tables going. I think everyone enjoyed themselves - it was certainly interesting listening to people's opinions and experience. However, we will try (again!) to find another venue for next month - Gino's was full and very noisy last night.

I thought of the Pacific Golf Club Carindale. It has a large meal area and will not be too busy during the week.

It's a little too far for those of us who live on the far north side of Brisbane (i.e. Petrie and Redcliffe) Also it's not on a convenient public transport route, which some members need. But we'll keep looking. Thanks for the contribution.

Are the facilitator notes available yet? I'd like a chance to look them over before Wednesday - that's if you'd like me to facilitate???

Thanks to Georgine for facilitating one table of people. Is there anyone else that can help out with the second table just in case Maureen can't do it?
