There are 2 split quarters of beef available at Glynwood along with up to 40 chickens and 150 pounds of pork sausage.
This share is for one split quarter of beef plus chickens & sausage.
Several people have requested to have a mixture of chickens, beef, and sausage. There have also been several requests for specific cuts. Due to these requests, we are going to run this meatshare similar to the way Melissa ran the one in November. The buy in is $70. Each person will be able to get $67.50 worth of meat -- whatever mixture they choose from what is available. If you would like more, please bring cash to pick-up. If you would like less, or if there is less available, we will refund you in cash at pick-up as well.
The share is open to the first 10 people who sign up. If you are not one of the first 10, please put your name on the waiting list. If there is enough interest, we will get the second split quarter of beef. Ken said if we let him know by December 15th, we can have the second quarter as well.
PLEASE SIGN UP BY 12/15 TO ENSURE WE GET BEST PRICING.
A split quarter means there is meat from both the front and back of the animal.
Prices of beef range from $5.50/lb for ground beef to ~$12/lb for the prime steak cuts. Average price is $7/lb. If we get both quarters, the prices will come down to the $5-$10 range averaging closer to $6/lb.

Chickens are $3.25/lb. Most chickens are in the 4-5 lb range. If we buy more than 10 chickens as a group, we will get the bulk rate of $3/lb. So please specify how many you would like.
There is also about 150lbs of sausage available at $7/lb. Again, please try to be as specific as possible with what you want. Neither Rob nor I have a chest freezer so we will not be able to store lots of extras.
We will drive to Glynwood to pick up this meat on January 1st. If you come to the pickup you get first dibs on cuts, but you must bring a cooler. We would love it if you would help me and Rob get our meat back to our drop-off points in the West Village or the UES. I have a big car but depending if we get two quarters, space may be at a premium. If you can't come to the pick-up we have two drop-off points: one in the West Village., the other on the Upper East Side. The UES location will be at the corner of 95th & 3rd Avenue. It is 1 block from the 6 subway line and the M96 crosstown bus.
Your $70 deposit gives you $67.50 worth of meat at these prices. Bring cash when you pick up if you would like to purchase more. These meatshares are very difficult to price because we are dealing with so much unpredictability. We have no idea how much these animals will weigh in total. Farmer Ken estimated the quarters to be around 125 pounds each, but that is an estimate and by no means precise.
If we run low and you end up with less than $67.50 worth of meat we'll provide a refund for the money you didn't use.
Philosophically, meatshare is about sharing meat: the work of getting it from farm to table, as well as risks and benefits of dealing with something alive and unpredictable. As is such, we cannot guarantee particular cuts unless you order a whole chicken. Those driving to Glynwood will get first dibs. We will attempt to save prime steak cuts so everyone has the option to have some. However, we have no idea how many will be available until we pick up in Glynwood on Jan. 1st.
