The Greenville Meditation Meetup Group Weekly Meetup IN SANCTUARY NOT CHOIR ROOM

  • Apr 23, 2013 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Note: The church is hosting homeless families all week so we will be meditating in the main sanctuary (on the left from the main hall) instead of the choir room.

Our merry little group was originally founded in 2004 by Brad Fohr, who offered information on Zen meditation techniques. We have kept some of the Zen meditation traditions in our sessions but members are welcome to meditate in any style they wish as long as it is silent. For more information there are weblinks on the left side of the home page under "Messages" to websites that might be of interest. There is also an excellent article under "Files" entitled Mindfulness in Plain English. Jim Lawrence is leading the sessions. If you would like to lead a session, please let us know. It's easy and fun! If you would like an orientation in meditation techniques, let us know by e-mail or after one of the sessions and we will arrange to meet you about 15 minutes before the next session begins. We start with a 20 minute sitting meditation, then do a 5 minute walking meditation and end with another 20 minute sitting meditation. We're meeting in the children's classroom that is right at the corner where the two hallways intersect. You will see a cart full of mats and cushions and our footwear right outside of that door. It is in the building that is up the stairs (or ramp) if you are coming from the front parking lot on State Park road. Most members prefer to park in the back and avoid the stairs. Go through the glass doors. There is no need to RSVP but doing so may encourage more to join us. We typically have anywhere from 4-7 members show up. Please contact us if you would like more information. If you arrive after we have already started, you'll know by the silence, just select a mat and cushion, come in as quietly as you can and sit down. If you are unsure of what to do, just do what everyone around you seems to be doing. As a meditator, the less you are doing, the better you are doing! You don't need to bring anything special but we recommend comfortable, loose fitting clothing. All are welcome. Please join us!

Is anyone there willing to teach me? I was once advanced in Kung fu and fully able to meditate and now at 42 I have been lost for a long time. I only know unhealthy living, anger and sadness. I would like to crawl my way back. Can someone help?
