Refuge Day - Safe in the heart

Details

About the Event

In turbulent times, we all need a safe place to land. Without a reliable source of refuge, we can easily end up feeling powerless or enraged with everything going on in our crazy messed up world. As Prince Siddhartha, Buddha left his luxurious life in the palace to see if he could find a lasting source of protection and happiness for himself and everyone else. He could, and he has shared it with us.

This is going to be a perfect day for those who've been enjoying classes at KMC Colorado this year, or for the spiritually curious.

Refuge starts in the knowledge of our own unbreakable Buddha nature, which we then grow by relying upon the Three Jewels, Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha. Join us for a talk on a practical approach to refuge that will energize our spiritual life, followed by the actual Buddhist Refuge Ceremony, a blessed ritual meditation dating back to the time of Buddha Shakyamuni.

The Ceremony draws us closer to the love and protection of the Three Jewels. You can choose whether you use it to formally become a Buddhist or simply as a powerful blessing and inspiration on your spiritual journey.

The day concludes with a delicious lunch with the Sangha community.

One of the senior teachers of Kadampa Buddhism, Kadam Lucy has taught extensively in England, Florida, and San Francisco, and helped set up many thriving meditation centers since 1981. She is a leading expert in meditation and is regularly invited to teach courses around the United States and Europe due to her skill in presenting both simple and profound subjects with great clarity. For many years, one of her main jobs was to help with the editing and production of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso’s books, and she has engaged in extensive meditation retreat.
