Book Discussion: "From the ZEN KITCHEN to ENLIGHTENMENT" By Dogen and Uchiyama
Please join us for a 25 minute period of meditation followed by an informal discussion until 9:00 pm. Starting July 30 we began discussing the Zen book "From the Zen Kitchen to Enlightenment: Refining Your Life" By Eihei Dogen-zengi and Kosho Uchiyama-roshi. We are going to read and discuss roughly about one to three short chapters per week. It would be preferable to read the chapters early in the week before the discussion. This will allow time to observe how the weekly reading influences your life and practice, which is primarily what we will be discussing. The only prerequisite for this discussion group is that you have attended at least one of our 'Introduction to Zen' classes on Wednesday evenings or have some basic understanding of Zen. What we're about

The Atlanta Soto Zen Center, founded in 1977, is one of the larger Zen centers in the country, offering a full schedule of morning and evening meditation and instructions for beginners, monthly all-day sittings (zazenkai) and occasional week-long retreats (sesshin), as well as limited residency.

Please join us in our beautiful location AT 1167 Zonolite Place, SUITE C, for opportunities to begin or deepen your meditation practice.

If you would like an orientation in meditation techniques, we welcome you to begin exploration of Zen practice during Newcomers workshops each Wednesday evening at 7:30. This session focuses on the mechanics of sitting including posture, breath, and attention during meditation. Newcomers are given an opportunity to introduce themselves, talk about their interest in Zen, and ask any questions they may have.

A Newcomers Session is recommended before you attend any of the regularly scheduled meditation services, but s not required, especially if you are already experienced with seated meditation.

Regular morning and evening sessions start with 25 minute sitting, 5 minute walking meditation, and end with a second 25 minute sitting meditation. Please arrive on-time and enter the meditation hall (zendo) quietly.

You don't need to bring anything special but we recommend comfortable, loose fitting clothing. All are welcome. Please join us.
