I have recently assumed the role of organizer and would like to promote your meditation practice as much as possible.
I am doing this because of the great benefits my meditation practice has brought me. I started offering group sits about 4 years ago as a result of an experience I had during a 10 day retreat. About half way through the retreat I had a huge "shift" that brought great clarity to my life. At that moment I decided that I would do whatever it takes to expose as many people as possible to the experience of meditation. within 2 months I found a space, spread the word and hosted my first session. Since then I have hosted meetings in my area and only recently started a meet-up group to expand the offering.
For this group, I will be figuring out the best way forward for meet-ups and in the meantime invite all to make the trip to the Uxbridge area to join my current meet-up group "invitation to meditation and mindfulness" which meets the first and third Thursday.
The best way to support your meditation practice is in a group setting. We meet on a regular basis to create an environment where you can strengthen your individual practice. The focus of the group isn't to instruct or talk about meditation but rather use our available time to benefit our practice. The format is flexible and is based on individual requests. The sessions can include a mix of guided, and silent meditations and generally run for one and a half hours.
I would also like to retain the principles of the previous organizer being:
instruction will be provided on mindfulness meditation.
brief, informal dharma talks and open group discussion.
open discussion relating to spirituality, mental health, and recovery (from alcohol, drugs, eating disorders, etc).
Meetings may have pre-selected themes, but all are encouraged to share openly.
Participants may also wish to bring spiritually-oriented readings to share with the group.
These meetings are informal in structure and approach.
In addition, I would encourage one on one conversation outside of the meditation times for instruction and support so that our group time can focus on really practicing meditating. I will provide as much instruction as needed to help you build your practice and experience the real benefits of living mindfully every day.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME—ALL YOU NEED TO BRING IS AN OPEN MIND!
