Feather Fusion Dance is founded by Monika Sumegi(drummer, dancer, choreographer, guitarist, violinist) who approaches dance and movement from a musicians perspective. It is based on Tribal fusion/Belly dance combined with a hint of many other styles.
Beginners Tribal Fusion/Belly dance. Four week courses. With performance opportunities for more advanced. Drop in classes are also available.
Workshops are for different levels and will include Veils, double Veils, sword, choreography, music and dance relationship, rhythmical workshop.
WHO IS IT FOR?
In the beginners courses everyone of any age, creed, shape and background with a curious nature who wish to liberate themselves more with movement and be part of a friendly progressive group are welcome.
Higher levels and some of the workshops will need a couple of years experience. (Each workshop and course have different criteria of experiences)
ETHOS OF DANCE CLASSES
- Emotional approach Dance is not only movement, but expression of thoughts, feelings, experiences, and many other dynamics. By bringing attention and consciousness to movement and raise emotional awareness to how and why you move and understand deeper meaning behind it will help you to move freer, understand and learn quicker.
For those who would like to stay after the class to get technical and emotional feedback there is the opportunity to do so. Where someone prefers personal feedback this can be arranged by email or phone.
Combining different styles to explore your current alignment and progress and express what is hidden and wants to be released. Styles are Belly dance, Tribal Fusion and hint of Flamenco, Bollywood, Classical Indian and others.
The class is attentive to precision and has emphasis on learning healthily sequenced movement from the beginning.
Using the experience of being a musician helped to innovate a lot of unique exercises that allow more graceful and efficient learning process and help to be comfortable with improvisation.
LIVE MUSIC ACCOMPANIMENT
Some of the classes will incorporate live music which helps dance to feel even more expressive.
For those who wish to focus on specific things such as a technical improvement, personal choreography for your favourite music or a special occasion.
Each class there is an opportunity to record the movements for practise and as a reference tool.
Such as making costumes together, and other gatherings organised by FFDD.
