What should I say when someone asks, “What is philosophy?”

This discussion we will try to obtain an understanding as to what the hell is philosophy, and what the role of a philosopher is. Is a philosopher one who questions? One who critiques? One who sets out to bring about change? And would this change be material, or individual, or both? Perhaps both philosophy and philosophers are superfluous, and just a means to keep the aristocratic class busy. And perhaps everyone is a philosopher. But does that make no one a philosopher? Is philosophy an art? A science? Either way, here’s hoping that we can find a way to answer this question.

We will spend the early portion of the discussion going through the text. The rest we will let the discussion take flight, and take us where it pleases.
