Friendly, funny, interesting pub conversations about ideas & individuals of the Intellectual Dark Web.
The Intellectual Dark Web or IDW, was a name penned by Eric Weinstein to describe a group of intellectuals who were using the internet to communicate directly with the public and thereby sidestepping the mainstream media. Some of the thinkers of the IDW are conservative (Jordan Peterson, Douglas Murray, Gad Saad, Ben Shapiro), some are Left-leaning (Sam Harris, Jonathan Haidt, Steven Pinker, Eric & Bret Weinstein). The IDW may also include 'patron saints' - inspirational pre-internet thinkers such as Camille Paglia and Thomas Sowell.
The varied figureheads of the IDW have inspired millions of people around the world. Harvard intellectual Jordan Peterson has over a million Youtube Subscribers. Joe Rogan, UFC commentator, has had over a billion downloads of his two hour podcasts. All of this has been done with the distain of the mainstream media, and sometimes its overt hostility.
The IDW meetings were started on meetup by Ben in 2018 in order to create a place where individuals who had been inspired by IDW thinkers could talk about the ideas that had heard. The London IDW Intellectual Dark Web became a popular place for members to meet and socialise on a regular basis. The members tend to share the ideal of individual freedom but otherwise hold varied political positions. Our meetups are a friendly and engaging event in which any idea can be shared, discussed and examined in good faith.
Conversations run well into the night, sometimes with a few drinks, and can range from sharing personal journeys to heated debates about big ideas. A conversation might start agreeing on Peterson, then disagreeing about Joe Rogan, and end up discussing vipassana meditation and deadlifting.
Theres a lot of good-natured debate, way-out opinions, unexpected titbits, and its often really funny.
