As products and companies grow, the way we build those things has to change. Shortcuts that worked before won't, processes that were simple at first quickly become more complex, and sometimes, architectures simply don't scale. These are good problems to have, but how can we solve them? Atlassian has been through this growth first hand, and we have lessons to share from the front lines of building products on platforms that scale.

What else to expect? FREE FOOD, BEVERAGES, & SWAG!

Agenda:

6:00 - Welcome & networking

6:30 - Behrooz Nobakht, Senior Software Engineer @ Atlassian, Performance Engineering at Scale

Talk summary: Adoption of micro-services architecture allows deployment of services to grow rapidly using horizontal scalability. The distributed nature of services combined with the scale and size of deployment brings new challenges to performance engineering in terms of detection, analysis, and tooling across different technology stacks. In this session, we talk about a few performance engineering challenges in this area and how we could tackle such challenges with better techniques and tooling.

7:00 - Leandro Ostera, Research Engineer @ SRC, Unreasonably Scalable Javascript

Talk summary: As your Javascript programs scale in size and in complexity, it gets increasingly harder to keep development cycle
and execution time short without sacrificing safety. More tests increase safety, but slow down cycle. More logic slow down your applications, and may increase the amount of tests! Join me in discovering how ReasonML can keep your team and your programs running at full speed, with blazing
fast compilation and testing speeds, and the ability to, at any point, run natively.

7:30 - Check out the new office, grab some FREE food and drinks
