"As big, bold and beautiful as his ballet music for Gayaneh and Spartacus, Khatchaturian’s Violin Concerto is a powerhouse concerto tailor-made for the sublimely talented Canadian violinist James Ehnes. We travel to a darker, more conflicted Russia for Shostakovich’s masterful symphony."
Mark Wigglesworth - conductor
James Ehnes - violin
Khachaturian Violin Concerto
Shostakovich Symphony No.10
On the day:
Rush Tickets $40, Student Rush Tickets $20 (one hour prior to the performance from the box office subject to availability)
Emerging artists from the University of Melbourne School of Music will extend and enhance the MSO concert experience with a performance of Russian chamber music.
The pre-concert talk is scheduled an hour before the main performance. From past experience, they run for roughly half an hour in the area outside Doors 1 and 2. Can we meet up at 7:35 around the piano down there? If we miss each other before the concert, can we gather around the piano during intermission as well?
The concert runs for 2 hours, 10 minutes with a 20 min intermission. So it will be rather too late to get together after the concert. I was thinking if we wanted to have dinner, we could try the foodcourt in Southbank at 6pm. We could meet in front of the Box Office at Hamer Hall.
