We have created Positive Dating to provide a safe space for gay men living with HIV to explore and initiate dating with other positive men. Also, to allow the sharing of experiences to help us all feel more confident and relaxed about dating, as HIV positive men.
The idea of the MeetUp is to host events where we can make new friends, initiate connections and hopefully get an actual date! The MeetUp is for all positive men* whether living with HIV for some years or newly diagnosed and starting to explore dating.
We aim to provide a relaxed space where we can talk easily with other guys, get to know them, and arrange to meet with someone we like on a more personal level.
Feel free to send messages to other members. However, please keep in mind that contact should be made in order to arrange dates, rather than for a sexual hook-up. That is perfectly ok in other groups, but definitely NOT what we are about, here. That said, please remember to be polite and respectful in all your communications.
Please note, all profiles need to have a clear face picture, prior to being approved for membership. The reason for this is to ensure other members know with whom they are communicating. Therefore, there is a need for us to show a level of confidence and trust, right from the start!
The following Positive Dating MeetUp group rules are designed to ensure everyone feels safe and relaxed at all our events.
1. Confidentiality: this means who you see, where you see them, and what you hear them say, stays within the group and is never be to mentioned or discussed elsewhere.
2. Treat others the way you want to be treated: this means being supportive, respectful, open and honest with other members you meet at an event.
3. Inclusive behaviour: this means being open to the diversity of positive men attending the events, and encouraging shy or less confident members to feel at ease and engage in conversation. We all know what it’s like to feel excluded. We don’t want that here. So, we support each other.
* Our policy has changed since we were first eastablished. As such, some of our members who joined before April 2017 may be HIV negative. Since that time, anyone identifying as HIV negative will not be approved for membership.
