What we're about

CommuniTech London is a registered charity that helps people in local communities, young and old, from all walks of life, better understand and get the best out of their mobile phones, tablets, computers and the internet. Our aim is to answer people’s questions, help them become more confident in using technology devices and services, and create new opportunities to enrich or make their lives easier.

This is done through Tech & Tea: fortnightly, casual and friendly events currently held on Sunday afternoons in a public library. We gather tech-savvy volunteers (could be you!) that educate and advice though themed focus groups and workshops. They inspire attendees to learn new ways of using their devices and take them through practical examples to help them acquire tech skills.

Our aim is to bring together communities and encourage people to give and receive as much as possible. This wouldn’t be possible without the amazing people like yourself, with whom we share the same values!

Volunteering at CommuniTech London is fun and draws on skills and knowledge that come naturally to younger residents. The workshop format of Tech & Tea means that providing help and support is focused on the individual at hand, which helps to build a connection between Learner and Volunteer. You don't need to be an expert on the theme to help out!

In sharing existing knowledge while visibly seeing the fruits of their labour, Tech & Tea gives a true experience in contributing to your local community instantly and with a positive impact which lasts.

Tech & Tea (& Biscuits!)

Putney Library

Tech & Tea are fortnightly, casual and friendly events where we share tech skills and knowledge with others in the community who aren't quite so confident using tech. If you want to help others in the community and meet other like-minded people that live nearby, then Tech & Tea is for you! We are an enthusiastic team of volunteers that educate and advice through themed focus groups and workshops. We inspire attendees to learn new ways of using their devices and take them through practical examples to help them acquire tech skills. It's crazy how not having basic tech skills can impact the quality of life for a lot of people! The session starts with a 'Tech Talk', where we introduce a new tech topic to the attendees to raise awareness about what they can do with their tech devices. We encourage you to participate in the Tech Talk (but if you'd rather quietly observe that's fine too!). Then the session turns into a workshop, where you can have a chat with those who need help with tech and answer any questions they have :) we try to work as a team, so if you don't know the answer you can ask another volunteer if they do! NOTE: You don't need to be an expert on the theme - or in tech overall - to help out the often novice learners that come along to Tech & Tea! You don't need to bring anything to our session. If you haven't been before, don't worry! We'll be there to let you know how everything works before our 'learners' arrive at 5.30pm. You'll also receive a free goody bag which contains everything you need, plus there's free tea, coffee and biscuits! Hope to see you there! Lots of tech love, Sébastien Le Fouest Director of Services CommuniTech London

Tech & Tea are fortnightly, casual and friendly events currently held on Sunday afternoons in a public library. We gather an enthusiastic team of volunteers that educate and advice through themed focus groups and workshops. They inspire attendees to learn new ways of using their devices and take them through practical examples to help them acquire tech skills. Helpers (you!) are at the heart of Tech & Tea. They are encouraged to take part in the TechTalk (themed conversations to begin the session on an inspiring note) and, once the session turns into a workshop, to impart your digital skills and answer questions from our Learners. Being a Helper is fun, rewarding and a great exercise for the brain! Not to mention it will look great on your CV. NOTE: You do not need to be an expert on the theme - or in tech overall - to help out the often novice learners that come along to Tech & Tea! You don't need to bring anything to our session. If it's your first time, you will receive a complementary goody bag which contains everything you need! The host will also be there to greet you and offer an induction (attendance not required) between 14h and 14h30 when the session officially starts. Hope to see you there!
