This is a group for those people living in the York and surrounding area who feel that they would benefit from a safe space to share life's challenges. We will meet once per month in a relaxed setting for 1-2 hours depending on numbers and what has come up in the month prior. It is essential that people treat others with respect, care and understanding. It is also important that by being a member you commit to coming along to the meet ups as the group will not work without attendees!
Often it is easy to feel alone in the world with things particularly if you have just moved to the city or find yourself away from friends and family. Come along and have a chat and share what is going on and feel supported by like minded people.
I have found from my experience of running a separate group on meetup that is focused more on socialising that people would benefit from a chat sometimes and this is not always possible in a social setting.
Some of my own experiences have been as a long term singleton, dating nightmares, depression, anxiety, bullying amongst other difficulties and hopefully I can share a little of my hard times which may help others. From these times I have found myself isolated and would have gained benefit from people to talk to and share things with, just to be heard. This is my driving force for setting up this group.
Please note that this is a group to share experiences, the group is not run by an experienced counsellor, trained specialist or facilitator. The idea is simply to allow people to feel there are people out there who will no doubt have experienced similar things in life. This can be a source of support for some. We can all learn from each other here.
Please be aware there can be misinterpretation from the name self improvement. My persona interpretation is that we all grow as people when we learn from each other.
