Soul Sanctuary is a community of like-minded people who love to come together to chant, read poetry, and share the light in the form or "Arti - a ceremony of lights". Most of the chants are in an ancient language, Sanskrit. The intention of Sanskrit mantra chanting (kirtan) is to merge the chant leaders and participants firstly chanting or singing together which then becomes silence. From a linguistic perspective, Sanskrit is the mother tongue of many modern languages. The mantras are primarily recitations of names given to the divine. But perhaps the true understanding of the mantras can be found in the sense of unity, well-being and timelessness that they elicit. The mantras quiet the mind, and the music frees the heart. Ecstasy is both the process and the product. No experience required. Admission by donation to Starlit Yoga community initiatives and to Discovery House, a men's recovery home.
The Saturday afternoon chants, from 4 to 5 pm, are held in two locations depending on the availability of the venue.
