RI Philharmonic Open Rehearsal: Beethoven Violin Concerto
Details
Hey everyone! Not sure if this will be our only event for this weekend, or if we'll do one of our regular bar nights as well. Keep an eye out closer to the this weekend for other events. However, it's been a little while since we've checked out an open rehearsal with the RI Philharmonic. Let's kick off the weekend by being a little fancy and catching a show haha
TLDR Note: Let's meet in the lobby at 5pm. Link to tickets at bottom of post. Please be sure you're buying a ticket for the Friday 11/21 performance. If you come late we'll post our location when we take our seats. Likely upstairs if reception is poor and comment doesn't go through.
Somehow despite our size, Rhode Island has built a fantastic classical music scene. The Rhode Island Philharmonic is easily on par with any other orchestra you'd see in any major city such as Boston or New York. They attract top tier talent in both their regular performers and special guests throughout the season. Last year's season even capped off with a performance from Yo Yo Ma, which was amazing. While their regular show prices are reasonable, the open rehearsals are where you get the best bang for your buck.
Tickets are just $25.00 and seating is open so we can easily stay together. The dress attire is casual, so you don't have to worry about dressing to the nines. Even the orchestra and conductor will likely be in their regular day clothes. Since the atmosphere is far more relaxed, we may even see the conductor address the crowd to explain some of the process. This weekend's performance is focused on Beethoven with the main piece being the composer's Violin Concerto which is an amazing piece. Eddie is watching Itzhak Perlman play it as he types this and realized he hasn't touched his violin in weeks lol Granted he can barely play Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
The run time is approximately 150 minutes and there may be a 20 minute intermission if the conductor allows. Just a heads up. The orchestra is obviously show ready since the main performance is the following day, but you may see them repeat certain segments if the conductor wishes. They usually play the piece through before they focus in any refinements. It's actually kind of cool to see to see how the sausage is made, to use a questionable analogy lol
Concessions will be open including wine and beer. Not sure about canned cocktails.
Let's meet in the lobby. We're assuming doors open at 5 and the show is at 5:30. We'll hang in the lobby or out front until the around the show starts. If you come late (especially with the traffic), we'll post in the comments where we are. Just incase reception is terrible in the theatre we usually go upstairs. We'll try to sit a little away from people if possible, but please keep conversation to a minimum. After the show we can walk somewhere to grab a drink and/or a bite to eat. Track 15 may be a good spot if people don't mind the walk.
Link to the tickets are below. It should take you to the open rehearsal, but just make sure you're buying tickets for the 21st not the following day. If the website is asking you to pick a seat, you're buying for the wrong date.
Please reach out to Eddie with any questions or leave a comment. See you then!
