What we're about

This is the group for you!

Book & Cranny is the most fun you can have between the covers... of a book! We're a book club in Manchester for 23-35 year olds (except for Stuart - the Goose to my Maverick) and we meet once a month (usually the 3rd Monday of the month).

If you're new to Manchester, want to read more, fancy a good chat with a bunch of bloody excellent people and enjoy a laugh (caveat - we don't take ourselves too seriously!) then what are you waiting for... get yourself to Book & Cranny.

Everyone is welcome! Now in our 4th year we've got a lovely group of regulars (and often meet up socially - opera, theatre, drinking and most importantly QUIZ NIGHTS!) and we always welcome newbies. We love newbies. They're our favourite.

So what do we read? Well nothing is ever off limits. We've read the good, the bad and the downright horrendous - including poetry, graphic novels, autobiographies etc. We always pick the following months book at the meet-up and work to a vote system (so come prepared with a suggestion for next month).

Please only attend if you are on the "going" list and have prepaid your £2. We take a register at the start of each meeting and those who are not on the "going" list will be asked to leave (sorry!).

I’m very proud that we have raised over £2,000 for the local charity Mustard Tree - if you'd like to donate then please follow the link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bookcranny

Come on in, the waters lovely.

Monday nights are rubbish... But wait, they don't have to be! From the comfort of your own home you can partake in a chat about books, life and no doubt the weather (this is Manchester after all!) What are we reading: an unforgettable novel that follows a brother and sister across 5 decades. Patchett's splendid novel is a thoughtful, compassionate exploration of obsession and forgiveness, what people acquire, keep, lose or give away, and what they leave behind - 1, 2, 3... start reading. We're a very relaxed and friendly book club so please join in and don't worry if you haven't read the book, watched the film... or cheated and read the wiki page. We'll stay as long as we still have things to say (usually around 2 hours) and pick next months book with a vote so come prepared with suggestions. The £2 fee goes towards paying for the MeetUp subscription and any additional dollar, dollar will be donated to the local Manchester charity - Mustard Tree. If you would like to donate to this very worthy charity then please follow this link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bookcranny Please only attend if you are "going" and have prepaid your £2. The £2 fee is non-refundable and non-exchangeable. If you can no longer attend please change your attendance to "not going" so someone else can take the spot. Hope to see you there and any questions just give me a shout.

Book & Cranny are running the Manchester 10k in aid of the amazing local charity Mustard Tree. 16 of our readers are hoping to raise a mighty sum for this mighty charity - if you would like to support then please donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bookcranny If you’d like to support on the day then we would really appreciate a few cheers (and hopefully a few cold beers after the finish line). We’ll confirm plans closer to the time so keep your eyes peeled - and hopefully you can help us raise some much needed cash (and a glass or 2 in celebration)
