Ride:
A ride to Mount Dandenong via Mountain Highway.
We ride up Mountain Highway (the "One in Twenty") to Sassafras and regroup there then turn right on the Mt Dandenong Tourist Rd to go via The Crescent (downhill) and Perrins Creek Rd (uphill) rejoining the tourist road just 2 kms from Olinda.
From Olinda it's via Mt Dandenong Village to Mount Dandenong and the Sky High Restaurant for coffee and the view. (Admission free for cyclists/pedestrians).
We'll return via Kalorama and Montrose for our lunch / departure from The Basin. Ride back to Melbourne with me via the roads if you wish.
Suits: Upper intermediates
Getting there:
Take the 8:06 Flinders St towards Lilydale(via City Loop), changing at Ringwood to the Belgrave train and arriving at Bayswater at 09:05, then cycle 5km straight up Mountain Hwy for a warm-up to meet at The Basin. I'll be on the train in the last carriage.
Those driving can use the carpark over the road from the Basin shops or meet us at Bayswater Station if you are early enough. If you are late, you may have to chase the group.
Distance:
46km from Bayswater / 36km from The Basin. More if you ride back to town/home
Note: Steep hills require extra caution. All roads are sealed but may be wet, slippery or sandy with runoff.
