Joomla Overrides / Introduction to Gantry 5 framework
As all good Joomla users know, modifying core code is a big no-no! Fortunately, there are many ways to achieve your goals in Joomla without compromising software or site security. This month we'll talk about Joomla Overrides, and see some real-world examples that members have implemented. Following that, we'll take a look at the Gantry 5 framework. Free beer and pizza will be provided by our sponsor Raygun https://raygun.com. This event will be livestreamed to Facebook - please join us! https://www.facebook.com/JoomlaAu/ AGENDA: 6:30-7:30pm - Topic 1: Joomla Overrides (Nicky Veitch/Patrick Jackson). Overrides are a very powerful part of Joomla which help you to achieve exactly what you want to achieve. We're going to take a look at both language and layout overrides, with some simple and more complicated examples. If you have a favourite override, please bring it along to show the rest of us. [masked]pm - Topic 2: Introduction to Gantry 5 framework (Nicky Veitch). Gantry is a powerful framework that the RocketTheme template club uses as the basis for all of its Joomla template designs, but Gantry also provides a free template. As a long-time RocketTheme/Gantry 4 user, the learning curve from Gantry 4 to Gantry 5 was quite steep, but once you get your head around Gantry 5 it is incredibly powerful. Nicky will demonstrate some of the basics and things she's learned along the way. 8:15-8:30pm - General Q&A session & discussion - bring your Joomla questions to ask the group All welcome, beginners-advanced

    What we're about

The Joomla! User Group Melbourne has been running since 2007 and attracts a regular group of Joomla!® users from all over Melbourne including:

beginners - people building their first Joomla! site

hobbyists - people tweaking their own Joomla! site

designers - people who design Joomla! sites for a living

implementers - people who implement more than just basic Joomla! sites
    eg ecommerce, forums, interfaces etc

guns - people who can answer almost any question you may have about Joomla!

Often members are 'multi-functional' with several specialists in hosting, design, security and more.

Meeting monthly (current venue Butterfly (https://www.butterfly.com.au/)'s office in Melbourne CBD - see venue details on each meetup) we cover a number of Joomla! topics that ideally provide all members of the group with something each month.

Additionally we're planning a few other meetups during the year with skypecasts with Joomla! luminaries, doccamp/barcamp style events, training workshops, and assisting with JoomlaDay! Australia (https://www.facebook.com/JoomlaAu/) conference every few years.

You can also participate in more discussion, find out more on the Group, and get Joomla! tips and assistance in the forums by visiting http://www.joomla.org.au or find all the Australian Joomla User Groups on Facebook at fb.me/JoomlaAu (https://www.facebook.com/JoomlaAu/)
