Let’s stroll at Low Gap Park!

Our regulars will also be discussing the book American Nations (it has the U.S. map on the cover—so it definitely qualifies as reading for a hiking group!). If you’re curious about the book, here’s the author’s page:

Week 3 Ap 2
Week 4 Ap 16
Week 5 Ap 23
Week 6 Ap 30
- the book is 320+ pages, with 4 big sections. we''ll take about 6 weeks to read, then walk and discuss the maps described. Bring your book, and we can sit under a tree together and read.

I found this book fascinating because it tells the stories of the different regional cultures in North America and how the people who settled those areas shaped them. It offers an interesting way to think about why various parts of the country developed such distinct identities.

A bit about me: after earning my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music, I took three U.S. history courses at Mendocino College. Studying composers like Bach and Beethoven naturally leads you into European history, so I’ve enjoyed learning more about American history as well.
Come for the walk, the conversation, or both!
