The Palo Alto Institute announced it will launch the first annual Palo Alto International Film Festival on Thursday, September 29.
Taking place in the heart
of Silicon Valley, at various locations throughout the city of Palo Alto, the festival will
explore the interplay between art and technology by focusing on the role of new
technologies in film entertainment.
Over four days, PAIFF will feature 45 films that explore the convergence of art and
technology, as well as 30 discussions, panels and workshops led by innovators and
industry leaders who will discuss the power of new technologies and the future of
filmmaking, gaming, online and media.
PAIFF's goal is to facilitate, fuel and ignite current and future cinematic revolutions through education
and entertainment. PAIFF convenes artists, media and technology professionals, and attendees in an
intimate environment where they can experience great cinema, learn about cutting-edge technologies
and ideas, and celebrate the artists and innovators shaping the world of moving pictures.

A word from the PAIFF Executive Director
Welcome to the Inaugural Palo Alto International Film Festival!
Last summer, we brainstormed to find a way to bring our community together. The Palo Alto International Film Festival ("PAIFF") was just one of many ideas until one of us discovered that motion pictures came about because art, technology and finance converged in Palo Alto and the surrounding Bay Area in the late 1800s. So we asked-why didn't Palo Alto have a film festival to celebrate the innovations that have marked it ever since?
Many of the innovators and masters of the technologies that change the way movies are made live in Palo Alto and the greater Bay Area. Netflix and Google are now doing to film distribution what ILM and Pixar have done to visual effects. While most film festivals celebrate the directors, the writers and the
WELCOME people in front of the camera, PAIFF is devoted to honoring all of the people behind the scenes, the people working on the frontiers of cinema and technology on the freshest and most exciting ideas - our people. A little more than one year later, thanks to the generosity and faith of all of our amazing sponsors and supporters, as well as a passionate core team, we've been able to put together a world-class four-day inaugural event showcasing film technology, award-winning independent films and legendary speakers. We hope that PAIFF will help catalyze further advancements in art, technology and film. But more importantly, we hope that everyone has a wonderful time and connects with a few of their neighbors!
Sincerely,
Devyani Kamdar
Executive Director
