MergeSort Message Board › MergeSort member approval update
New York, NY
We’re instituting a new policy here at MergeSort as we grow and better define who we are and what we do, and we wanted to send you an email to let you know about it.
As of today, July 27, new members to the Meetup group will have to answer two questions before we approve them to the group. The questions are as follows:
MergeSort aims to be inclusive of women, genderqueer people, nonbinary people, and others who do not identify as cisgender men. Do you fit this description?
If not, what are your reasons for wanting to join MergeSort?
If you feel included by the description in that question, great! We look forward to seeing you at our events! If you don’t feel included by this description and feel that MergeSort should be for you, please reach out to us and let us know how you think we can improve. If you don’t feel included by this description and don’t feel that you are in MergeSort’s audience, we request that you leave the group in order to ensure that MergeSort remains a safe space for our members.
The primary reason for this policy is that we want to provide a safe and dedicated space for people who are traditionally underrepresented in hackerspaces, makerspaces, and the tech industry as a whole. We will be approving or denying new membership requests based on answers to these questions, and will be reaching out to all existing members in the upcoming weeks for their answers as well. We are also putting together a formal Code of Conduct that will apply to all future MergeSort events as well.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
