Looking for something to do before the kids visit for Halloween?

Join us for this easy-to-moderate hike called China Ditch Loop in the Reynolds Creek (Melba) area that includes a short 4WD road, history, interesting rock formations, scenic views, and wildlife.

HIKE: 3.1-mile loop with 350 feet of elevation gain near the end

MEET: If you wish to carpool or caravan, meet at Lowe's - South Meridian (350 West Overland Road) at 11:00 am. Will take us ~1 hour to meet at Trailhead. We will be back by 4 pm.

If you wish to drive straight to the trailhead, we will gather in the Main Wilson Creek Trailhead parking lot (with vault toilet) on Wilson Creek Road around noon. From there, we will drive 2 miles on narrow, dirt road (Pigeon/37156 to 37154) to a dirt parking area. From my scouting trip this week, 4WD vehicles are preferred, but SUV will be able to handle the road.

BRING: Water, snack/lunch, sunscreen, hat, layered clothing, good, hiking boots or shoes, poles, weather-appropriate clothing. Pitchfork or metal rake may be necessary to remove the goathead tumbleweeds from the 4WD road, if necessary.

DIRECTIONS: Set GPS for Wilson Creek Trails, Wilson Creek Rd, Melba, ID 83641, which corresponds to the main parking lot. From ID 78, turn left on Wilson Creek Road (dirt road). Veer right as you past the Wilson Creek Cattle Feeders. You’ll see the overflow parking lot for Wilson Creek Trails on your right. Keep going to the primary parking lot, just a little further ahead.
RESTROOM: There is a vault toilet at the Wilson Creek Trailhead parking lot.
