My cell # is 586-925-1460. Reception can be poor in the DIA.
The DIA is a wonderful, huge, cavernous, monstrosity... We'll meet and greet at 5:45 pm, and then promptly at 6 pm we'll hike around the inside of the DIA, and see how much ground we can cover in an hour. At 7 pm, we will regroup at the same place and pick up the non-hikers and enjoy a night out at the DIA. Lots of activities; the doors close at 10 p.m.
I've always wanted to host one of the "FRIDAY NIGHT LIVE!" nights at the DIA, but I usually do volleyball on Friday nights. Since we're off over the holidays, this is the night that works... sorry about the late notice! I usually would never post so late, but I figure I could catch a few folks looking for something to do on a Friday night! Thanks for understanding...
NOTE: WE WILL MEET INSIDE THE WOODWARD AVE. ENTRANCE. Enter at ANY entrance, but proceed to the WOODWARD ENTRANCE, BY THE STAIRCASE TO THE GRAND HALL. Free admission for Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland county residents with I.D., otherwise check the DIA website for pricing. Special exhibits extra. NOTE: THE ANIMATION EXHIBITION IS ONLY HERE ANOTHER WEEK OR SO, GREAT CHANCE TO CATCH IT (extra fee)!
There is a gated parking lot "behind" the DIA roughly on John R just past Fredrick Douglas Rd. that costs $5 or so (see map at http://www.dia.org/about/). There's also metered parking -- check the signs and meters closely! A violation is $20, and they have been watching them closely lately. Some of you may recall an underground parking lot on Farnsworth -- that has closed.
GETTING TO THE PARKING LOT on JOHN R: If you will be exiting I-75, use the Warren Ave. exit.
Note John R is one way. (see map). You can not enter it from Warren Ave. Thus, if you are coming from I-75:
--take Warren Ave west, go about 1/2 mile
--turn right (north) on Woodward
--drive past the DIA
--take the first right on Kirby
--take the first right on John R
--look out for the parking lot on the left side, just past Fredrick Douglass Ave.
ENTRANCE: WE WILL MEET INSIDE THE WOODWARD AVE. ENTRANCE. Enter at ANY entrance, but proceed to the WOODWARD ENTRANCE, BY THE STAIRCASE TO THE GRAND HALL.
