Aquaponics is a closed-loop nutrient recycling system. Simply put, it is a combination of traditional aquaculture (raising aquatic animals) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil). Using this method can dramatically increase the levels of production in a smaller space footprint. Even better, the produce and fish are of the absolutely highest quality! Aquaponics is a method of growing edible plants and fish in a single system that is extremely well suited for the urban environment. Additionally, aside from being totally organic and natural, it is VERY water efficient (using less than 10% of the water necessary for a comparable soil garden).
This group has been formed to provide a point of contact for all interested people in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area, and truly all of North Texas, to come together and learn more about aquaponics and other related techniques. We hope to work together to develop a local community where we can learn from one another, enhance our abilities, and develop new methods that are specialized for our specific climate and culture choices. We welcome beginners as well as commercial growers.
Our goals have evolved considerably since this group was begun!
We look forward to what it can become, and we hope to meet many of you at our regular Sunday Gatherings at the production farm in Burleson! We have exciting plans for the future, and we look forward to sharing our hopes and dreams and to helping you all make yours a reality!
We believe more strongly than ever in the potential of the Good Food Revolution!
