Globe at Night

  • Apr 20, 2014 · 8:00 PM

Participate in a world-wide event to measure light pollution. No equipment is necessary. If you can find the constellation Leo, you can participate. If you can't find it, the Globe at Night website will show you how. Go to http://www.globeatnight.org to get all the details and instructions on how you can participate in this effort. it would be particularly helpful to get lots of data points from all over the Hudson Valley, so your backyard or wherever you are at 8-10 PM will produce a useful reading.

Hi Geraldine, this is done pretty much on your own. That way, they get data points from more places. It's pretty easy, just go to the Globe At Night website above and they'll have detailed instructions and charts, but basically, you go outside, find the appropriate constellation, Leo for April and May, compare your sky to the magnitude charts and make your report. They've even got an app that you can download if you'd like.

If nothing else, it's an easy way to learn some new constellations!!

    Have a great night.
