Saturday, November 3 marks the end of aviation as we know it. Red Bull Flugtag Miami is bringing self-accredited pilots to Bayfront Park to launch their team-powered flying machines off a 30-foot ramp into the wavy waters below. So save the date for an afternoon of soaring and soaking.
We will meet on the beach at 10:00 am and launch at 11:00 am. The event begins at noon. That should be plenty of time for everyone to make their way.
The beach is off the Rickenbacker Causeway between the toll plaza and the bridge (on the road heading away from Key Biscayne/Virginia Key. Please park conscientiously. This is a public beach.
What to bring:
Boat, paddle , whistle, PFD (We follow all USCG rules : ) Plenty to drink Snacks Sunblock Line to raft up An anchor if you have one Camera (preferably waterproof) Last time we swam, and drank and tried hard to not float away rapidly. I nearly lost my paddle, we met a bunch of other paddlers and had a blast. Let's not talk about the Coast Guard helicopter demo. Let's just say that you should stay away from the downdraft caused by the props. By the way, as a bunch of boats and boards were capsized I saw them smiling on the chopper. It was awesome : ) No harm, no foul unless you were Rick's camera which became part of the bay bottom.
NEED A BOAT? Must be prepaid. If you need a boat call The Paddle House at 786.307.3816. We have anchors in stock too.
The fine print:
By participating in any of our paddles you assume all risks and responsibilities for your personal health and safety and for your equipment; as well as the safety and equipment of your guests. It is important for everyone that each participant be prepared for the trip. Please use your discretion and best judgment when joining an outing. Be sure you are up to the paddle -- physically, mentally and that your equipment is appropriate for the intended trip. All night paddles require lights; even for rentals or borrowed boats. PFD and whistles are required. Intermediate to Advanced Paddles are for those who have substantial experience, skill, and solid knowledge of boat handling and self-rescues. Kayaking has inherent risks. Often, we are the smallest boats on the water. We each individually assume these risks each time we go out on the water. With all that being said, we all look forward to yet another great day on the water.
