Backpacking - Adventure Trail

  • This was such a nice and challenging trip that I want to do it again!

Lots of ups and downs on this one, similar to it Knobstone Light.  While each day may not have a lot of miles, they offer some good ups and downs.  Water can be a major concern, so we will tackle this trip in the spring in the hopes that will help with seasonal water sources, but we will also cache water along a couple of road crossings.

    Link to topo map HERE.

Day One - Drive to park, drop water caches, drive to trail head and hike 8.5 miles to Indian Creek Overlook Shelter.

Day Two - Hike 9.1 miles to scenic Ohio River Shelter area, with a great view of the Ohio.

Day Three - Hike 10 miles to car.  Head home, stopping at a brewery in Louisville on the way back.  Bring a change of clothes for the trip home.

While we will be staying at/near shelters, bring a tent.  We cannot count on the shelters having room (they are small structures).  The shelter areas have tables and fire rings and plenty of room for numerous tents.

Limited number on this as it is a backpacking trip (there is a waitlist).  No guests to allow more chapter members to have an opportunity to attend.

Carpool - Meet at the Meijer on Houston Road in Florence (park near Chili's).  Directions from the I-75 bridge in Cincinnati to the carpool site are HERE.  Be ready to roll out of Meijer by 9:00 a.m.

It will take about two hours to reach the trail head from the carpool site.  Directions are HERE.

Post hike will be at the Floyd County Brewing Company.
